Trying to make a paper DAISY

I love these daisies you see that are kind of "floppy." While the flat ones are beautiful, these floppy ones just grab my attention. I wanted to try and make them for a layout. Seems the more I tried, the more dissatified I was with the end result. The closeup in the bottom photo shows more detail in the petal, but still not enough. I like the middle daisy the best, but it still needs some "defining." The journaling tells how it will all end. Only God can make the perfect daisy!

Color BLAST

Hard to believe, this is a self-taken photo of my daughter. In high school, she really got into photography and would experiment with taking photos. This was a good one. Even though it is in black and white, a big blast of color all around will bring your eye to the center. Almost monochromatic, the bold colors add drama. Over doing it on embellishments will draw the eye away from the photo.Try keeping the detail in one area. Notice how there are no embellishments except in the flowers...and they are embellished as much as you want with flowers, button centers with ribbon in the button holes. This one was a lot of fun!!

A DRAMATIC PHOTO

This photo turned out very well in black and white. Those big eyes seemed to pop off the page at you and the mood is distinctive...he was tired of grandmama trying to catch a good picture of him! I wore him down!! I wanted the "draw" to be toward his eyes, so I picked black and white papers and embellishments with just a touch of color.

Star Flowers

Start with a square piece of paper, not card stock, doublesided if you have any. The larger the square, the larger the flower will be. Fold, corner to corner. Keep folding until you have a "ice cream cone" shape.

You have some options for cutting the top of the flower. You can make it pointed, as shown, or you can round it up, like the ice cream on top of the cone. Try experimenting with pinking scissors and some of those shape scissors for a variety.

Cut slits between all of the pedals...about 1/4" to 1/2" inch long. Take care to not cut too deeply or you will cut out a pedal. The smaller the flower, the smaller the slit must be. Use inks, chalks, paints, Shimmer Mist, whatever you want to add variation to the flower. Repeat this for about 5 to 6 layers, getting progressively smaller with each layer.

Dot the center of each section and stack, finally using a brad in the center to hold them all together. You can then add Stickles in the center to make a center..or just keep the brad as the center. Black brads look great with yellow flowers. I like to mix my colors to create a new or unusual looking flower. Rough up all the petals and push them up to the center to create dimension.

It is GOOD to be BACK...and I HAVE NEWS....Many THANKS to Memory Makers Magazine!!!

I have missed you guys. I have tried to stay in touch with some of you during our move and re-settlement in our new residence. I hope you all are having a great spring. I am up for some new projects and hopefully we will do some exciting things in the next few months.

I was published for the first time in Memory Makers Magazine. Here is the cover for the May/June Issue available at newsstands, bookstores, and their website.

Here is the page I submitted for "Mother's Day" of my Great Grandmother, Martelia Clementine Trent Fox. I never knew her, but my mother did and had nothing but wonderful stories about her.
